Camping and caravanning have quickly become some of the most popular ways to travel for Aussie families.
It’s convenient, cost-effective, and can take you just about anywhere you want to go without the hassle of booking hotels.
But, after one caravanner was faced with an unusual fee, others have become worried that it’s indicative of a greater trend which would increase the cost of camping overall.

“ya girl is CONFUSED”
An Australian family on TikTok as @thehydefive has taken to Instagram after their shocking experience at a campground.
“Nearly two years on the road, and today I met the strangest pet policy rules $15 per night/ per poochy on an unpowered site🤣🤣🤣” the post began.
“Sorry, what now? Are they coming to pick up her poo for me? Does she get a turn-down service and a little mint on her bed? Or maybe a doggy welcome pack with gourmet treats and a nail clip? 🐶🐶🐶🐶
“Because otherwise, ya girl is CONFUSED. Marley just looked at me like, ‘Mum, is this why you’ve been feeding me kibble from Aldi? To afford my 5-star campground fees?’.”
The post said that the family ultimately decided to leave the camping ground due to the fee.
“Safe to say, we’ll be barking up someone else’s tree tonight. 😂 🤷🏻♀️✌🏻” it concluded.

“Makes my blood boil!”
Commenters on the post were shocked at the $15 fee, with many saying they’d never heard of it being a thing before.
“WTF?? WA, proving they're 20 years and 3 hours behind the rest of the country!” said one commenter.
“What on earth! That’s insane! Beautiful staffy girl. They should be paying you for the privilege. 😂❤️” said another.
“WHAAAATTT!!!!! We take our 2 sausage dogs with us everywhere and never heard of that……. definitely go elsewhere lol,” a third said.
“That’s friggen ridiculous 😂” said another.
“We have a doggo too and seeing your post makes my blood boil! What the actual!!!!” another commenter said.
“We are not travelling with pets. But lately in WA we have been asked at every caravan park if we have a pet and if we did it was anywhere from an extra $10-$20 per night add on!! It's Crazy!!!!” said another.
Others were more shocked by the price itself, saying that for $15, they better be making good use of the facilities.
“I have heard of $2 per BUT $15 WHAT????” one commenter said.
“I would be letting your doggo use all there facilities for $15 a night 😂” said another.
“You better take that dog EVERYWHERE get your moneys worth 😂” another commenter agreed.
“Same price as another child! I’d be walking her into the amenities and giving her a nice bath/shower and making the most of it. Don’t forget to give her a jump on the jumping pillow as well! 😍” joked a fourth.
Is this the start of a trend?
Some commenters on the post, however, said that this is nothing new, having experienced fees up to $20 before for their pets.
“Yep we’ve had to pay pet policy for our dog and I was like wtf!!!” one commenter said.
“Yep we had to pay a $20 pet deposit before, was the stupid thing everrrr! I asked why and it was so you didn’t let your dog roam into someone’s camps that may have an allergy. Nearly friggen died 😂😂” said another.
“I'm so with ya hey! Bloody ridiculous 🙄 We had an unpowered site recently but $5/dog, but even that "why!?!"” a third said.
Worries are now rife that with the cost of living rising, camping grounds are simply following suit, with the prices of everything about to soar.
“God they really sting us everywhere they can don't they!” said one frustrated commenter.
