'Accident waiting to happen': Mums rage over ALDI's latest Special Buy

"Young kids would definitely not be able to tell the difference. And yes, it comes down to parent supervision, but I still wouldn't buy this product," one concerned parent said.

Aldi streetwear range booms in popularity

It's very normal for babies and toddlers to put everything in their mouths.

Which is exactly why mums are outraged over ALDI's latest SpecialBuys product — kids' paint that looks identical to yoghurt pouches.

One concerned ALDI customer took to the ALDI Mums Facebook group to express her frustration, asking, "Who's idea was it to put paint into the same pouches as kids eat yoghurt out of?"

She noted that "small children can't read", and therefore, it's an accident waiting to happen.

"Accidents happen"

The woman continued, "Who said it would be stored in the fridge? Puree, etc., come in food pouches off the shelf."

And for people who tell her that an accident could be avoided by "supervision or keeping it out of reach", she says: "Kids climb."

The mum wasn't alone in her worries, as many other parents echoed her concerns in the comments.

"I have one of those kids who would eat this, so for that reason, I wouldn't buy it," one claimed. "My two-year-old would think it's yogurt," agreed a second.

Then a third expressed: "Young kids would definitely not be able to tell the difference. And yes, it comes down to parent supervision, but I still wouldn't buy this product."

"Irresponsible"

"It's irresponsible packaging, and little kids will be more likely to ingest the paint," replied one woman.

"As soon as I saw it, I knew it would be a disaster for some," wrote another, "it only takes a second with your back turned for them to attempt to eat it."

Despite the OP saying that supervision wasn't enough to avoid accidents, some people argued that the onus was, in fact, on parents to protect their kids.

"Who is leaving their kids who can't read alone with acrylic paint?" one asked.

Someone else quipped, "You know wine comes in these pouches, too? Won't someone think of the children!"

Then another suggested, "Maybe parents should parent the kids."

In the meantime, some group members actually thought the packaging was great!

"I bought these thinking they are an amazing idea! Quick and clean," one person praised.
