‘A kiss doesn’t look right… she’s a young lady now, not a toddler’

David Beckham has faced criticism after sharing a video of himself kissing his 12-year-old daughter Harper on the lips.

When David Beckham shared a sweet video of himself and his 12-year-old daughter Harper getting ready for Paris Fashion Week, he probably didn’t expect it to erupt into controversy.

In the video, Harper powdered her dad’s face with a pink brush as Taylor Swift’s song Style played in the background.

The pair were getting ready for wife and mum Victoria Beckham’s fashion week show. As Harper worked on her dad's face, he bobbed his head to the music, and he and Harper sang along. "Swiftie" was the caption handwritten across the video. 

At the end, David smiled up at Harper and she leaned down for a peck on the lips.

Some fans thought it was a lovely moment, but others found it strange.

“Beautiful daddy daughter bond but a kiss on the lips doesn’t look right. She is a young lady now not a toddler,” one person wrote.

David Beckham defended for showing daughter affection  

Others thought that it was a sweet innocent moment, and called out trolls who were criticising the family.

“Every girl needs a father like this in her life,” one person wrote.

“This is precious,” said another person.

“Absolutely heart-melting to watch. What a superb father and role model,” said a third.

Another fan said David shouldn’t worry about trolls.

“Don’t be ashamed of kissing your daughter!” they wrote. “Your bond is beautiful.”

David Beckham defends showing kids affection

It’s not the first time David has been slammed for showing his kids affection.

In 2020, Victoria shared a photo of David kissing 10-year-old Harper.

“Adore your family, but never understood those parents’ kisses on the lips. Still the best family,” one follower said.

“Why is he kissing her on her lips?” said another.

“Please stop kissing kids on the lips!!!” a third person wrote.

David said that affection was very normal for him and Victoria, explaining that’s how they were brought up.

“I got actually criticised for kissing my daughter on the lips the other day. I kiss all my kids on the lips,” he said of another incident in 2017.

“Brooklyn maybe not. Brooklyn’s 18, he might find that a little bit strange,” he said.

“We want to show our kids love and we protect them, look after them, and support them and we’ve very affectionate with them.”
