A Werribee paedophile who spent nine months in jail for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl has faced court on new charges.

A Werribee paedophile who spent nine months behind bars for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl in the 1970s has again fronted court for failing to comply with reporting conditions.
Peter Gibson, 61, was in 2009 convicted of six counts of indecent assault against a child under 16 dating to 1979 when he was 22 years old.

Gibson has repeatedly denied the incidents and in 2016 posted a lengthy rant online, saying the charges were a result of a “piddling … dispute that got out of hand”.
On Wednesday, he pleaded guilty in the Werribee Magistrates’ Court to several charges, including failing to report he had slept overnight in the same house as a child on several occasions.
The court heard Gibson had met the children and their families at church and he and his wife of more than 21 years had stayed overnight in the same house as several children, aged between six and 13, on a number of occasions.
Gibsons also sometimes bought gifts for the children who called him “Uncle Peter”, the court was told.
Under conditions imposed on him as a registered sex offender, Gibson had an obligation to report any contact with a child within 24 hours.
The Wyndham Leader is not suggesting that Gibson behaved inappropriately toward any of these children, merely that he failed to adhere to his reporting conditions.
Magistrate Jennifer Grubissa sentenced Gibson to an 18-month community corrections order, including 200 hours of unpaid community work.
He must also undergo a specialised sex offender treatment program.
