A drug addict who stabbed a man during a “barbaric” carjacking attempt in Hoppers Crossing last May will spend at least three years in jail.
The County Court heard Jake Eddy, 26, wrenched open the door of Shu-Hua Hung’s car, which was parked at Hoppers Crossing train station, and demanded he hand over his keys.

When Mr Hung refused, Eddy pulled out a flick knife and stabbed him in the leg before spitting at him, calling him a “putrid c***” and to “f*** off where you came from”.
Mr Hung, 23, spent four days in hospital following surgery to reattach a segment of muscle in his thigh.
Police arrested Eddy about three hours after the attack after he was found hiding in the nearby carpark at Werribee Mercy Hospital.
A search revealed Eddy was carrying a flick knife, 3.59 grams of speed and 85 Xanax tablets.
He was also found to have ecstasy, methylamphetamine, cannabis and alcohol in his system.
Eddy initially denied stabbing Mr Hung, telling police he only wanted to use the victim’s phone, but “Asians are f***ing hard to deal with”.
The court also heard Eddy had a sordid criminal history and had been serving a community corrections order at the time of the offence.
Just months earlier he had faced court on weapons and assault-related charges.
Judge Gabriele Cannon said the damage caused to Mr Hung had been very serious and photos of the injury tendered to the court were sickening.
“It is quite breathtaking that less than four months (later) … you committed the offences for which I now sentence you,” she said.
“You approached a young man who was minding his own business, having just parked his car in a public carpark, and you behaved in a most frightening and, quite frankly, barbaric fashion.
“Your behaviour was callous and despicable.”
Judge Cannon said she had “grave concern” for Eddy’s rehabilitation prospects and sentenced him to five years in prison with a minimum of three to be served.
