A Hoppers Crossing woman looking to make a quick buck selling stolen power tools has been fined $500.

Hayley Macdonald, 30, yesterday fronted Werribee Magistrates’ Court after a tradie caught her listing his tools for sale on Gumtree and dobbed her in to police.

The court heard tools, including nail guns and power saws, had been stolen from a car parked at Cranbourne Homemaker Centre last December.

He later recognised the items on the popular classifieds website under the seller ‘Hayley Mac’.

When police raided Macdonald’s home they found $5000 worth of stolen tools.

She pleaded guilty to one charge of handing stolen goods.

There was no evidence to suggest Macdonald had been involved in the theft and the Leader is not suggesting she was.

During interview, she told police a man known to her as ‘Mustafa’ had dropped the goods at her house.

Macdonald had been on bail at the time of the offence after she was charged with unlawful assault a week earlier.

Magistrate Costas Kilias said Macdonald “should have known better”.

He convicted her and slapped her with a $500 fine.
