A Hoppers Crossing woman speed demon has lost her licence and copped a $700 fine.
Lakshmi Dominguez pleaded guilty to speeding after she was caught tearing down the Princes Highway in Brooklyn nearly 50km/h over the limit.
The Werribee Magistrates’ Court today heard on September 28, 2017, police chased Ms Dominguez’s Toyota Echo for 5km before intercepting her.
The car was clocked doing 148km/h in a 100km/h zone.
The court also heard the 26-year-old, a former manager of hair salons in Balwyn and Camberwell, had a history of “extreme speeding” and her licence had been suspended on and off over the past two years.
On two separate occasions she had been caught travelling up to 40km/h over the speed limit.
Ms Dominguez’s defence lawyer said her client had lost her most recent job as a body corporate manager as a result.
“That required her to drive between properties so she has lost her job as a result (of not having a licence).
Magistrate Kay Robertson suspended Ms Dominguez’s licence for 12 months and ordered her to pay a $700 fine.
“Speeding is incredibly dangerous and ... you simply cannot drive at that speed,” she said.
“ You have two priors and you have been lucky on these three occasions to have avoided a serious accident.”
Ms Dominguez must also complete a safe driver’s course before returning getting back behind the wheel.
