Werribee Gorge: Hiker’s fall forces Queens Birthday chopper rescue

A bushwalker in Melbourne’s west was winched to safety from a popular hiking track in the Werribee Gorge State Park after a nasty fall.

Dramatic gorge rescue

A bushwalker was rushed to hospital after a nasty fall left the woman with a dislocated shoulder in a remote part of the Werribee Gorge State Park.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 1.30pm on Monday at the tail end of the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said the service had to call in the assistance of the SES Victoria volunteers to reach the woman who was stuck in the Pentland Hills area.

“A woman in her 40s was winched from the incident location before being taken by road ambulance to Western Hospital Footscray,” she said.

The spokeswoman said she remained in a stable condition with an upper body injury.

Two SES crews from Bacchus Marsh unit were called in to assist recovery of the injured hiker, moving her to a clearing shortly after 3.30pm where an air ambulance helicopter was able to winch her to safety.
