Vandals have ruined Christmas for families in Point Cook after destroying festive decorations in a “sickening act”.
The families found inflatable Santas, penguins and unicorns had been slashed while their Christmas lights had been snapped and left unusable.
Point Cook resident Mackie woke up to a message on Tuesday from her husband after he left for work and noticed their inflatable Santa had been slashed and the lights around it broken.
Ms Mackie said festive decorations had been a popular part of their Christmas traditions since they moved from Queensland.
“I came out and had a look and of course it was destroyed and pulled out of the ground, so (there was) anger and then it just moves to disappointment more than anything,” she said.
“All our family is in Queensland so we try to build it up as much as possible for the kids so we can keep Christmas alive.
“People have been doing the lights since we moved here from Queensland four years ago and I haven’t heard of this before.”
The night of chaos has shaken what Ms Mackie described as a “friendly” neighbourhood that tried to spruce up their streets for the festive season.
“Knowing that it has happened to you is one thing but then knowing that they’ve gone and deliberately tried to destroy as much as they could, it’s just sad and sickening,” she said.
While some residents have pulled down the rest of their Christmas lights after the attacks, the Mackie family are determined to keep Christmas alive.
“We definitely won’t be stopping as soon as this weather, the rain and the wind goes away, it’ll be back on for us,” she said.
