Ultima Function Centre: Fire rips through Keilor East venue

Staff at a wedding venue in Melbourne’s west are picking up the pieces after it was engulfed by fire on Friday morning.

A wedding and functions venue in Melbourne’s west has been badly damaged after a fire broke out early on Friday morning.

More than 30 FRV firefighters responded to reports of smoke coming from the roof and the rear of the Ultima Function Centre in Kelior East just after 7am.

A FRV spokeswoman said seven crews rushed to the scene within six minutes to find the building well alight and began attacking the blaze.

The fire was brought under control in just under 40 minutes and nobody was inside.

According to an incident report, there was extensive damage to the kitchen, laundry and roof space of the building.

Firefighters are remaining on the scene at the venue, on the corner of Keilor Park Drive and Ely Ct, to ventilate the “smoke-logged” venue and ensure it is safe.

Police and parmadeics have also made their way to the scene, and the cause of the fire is being investigated.

Leader understands the venue could be closed until the end of the month for repairs following the fire.

The venue’s owners have been contacted for comment.
