A Wyndham ice dealer has avoided a prison sentence after he was busted running a trafficking ring from his share-house bedroom.

Detectives arrested 29-year-old Tyler Adams after a raid on his Wyndham Vale home uncovered a “large” bottle of GHB, 4.57g of meth, cash, cannabis and drug paraphernalia.

A large calibre bullet, which Adams said was “purely ornamental”, was also found sitting in his bedroom during the July 21 search.

Adams reappeared in Werribee Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, after pleading guilty to trafficking narcotics, dealing with the proceeds of crime and drug possession charges earlier this month.

Police revealed evidence obtained from his phone showed he had been facilitating the sale of methamphetamine among a group of more than 20 individuals at the time of his arrest.

“Given the quantity of drugs and scale of the operation, the prosecution would ask for a term of imprisonment,” prosecutor Senior Constable Kate Neilson argued.

His lawyer, Jason James, told the court he had begun dealing to support his own habit but has since realised it was a “mistake”.

“He comes from a good and law-abiding family … he doesn’t hide the fact drug use remains an issue,” he said.

Mr James said that while it could be seen as a large operation, it was simplistic in nature and he had cooperated once arrested.

At his last court appearance on October 6, Adams was warned imprisonment was “on the cards” by magistrate Mike Wardell who said the community “expected” the courts to take this seriously.

“Such is the curse of drug trafficking and use in the community the court has to denounce that behaviour,” he said.

Adams was sentenced to 200 hours of community service and an 18-month community corrections order for supervision and drug treatment after he was assessed as suitable for a community-based sentence.

Mr Wardell told the man his comments about the possibility of prison time were not a “scare tactic” but simply reflected the serious nature of his offending.

“It was a fact of life that that’s where we were at on the last occasion,” he said.

“But it seems you’ve engaged positively since the search warrant and have every prospect of moving forward to become a positive member of the community.

“I wish you luck.”
