A Victoria Police transit and public safety officer has faced court after he allegedly shot his firearm at a moving vehicle in Melbourne’s west.
Senior Constable Sean Benjamin, 27, made his first appearance in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after he was charged on September 28 last year following a year-long internal investigation.
It’s alleged the officer was on duty in Point Cook on August 16, 2020, when he discharged his firearm into the driver’s side window of a moving vehicle.
The act allegedly placed a person in danger of death without lawful excuse, according to a charge sheet filed with the court.
In court, prosecutor Adrian Brennan said forensic evidence, including CCTV and body-worn camera footage, would be presented to defence lawyers ahead of his next appearance.
Mr Benjamin was released on summons and will return to court on May 20 for a committal mention on the single charge.
