Roads across Melbourne’s western suburbs will receive a multimillion-dollar facelift as part of a massive drive to fix unstable surfaces by the end of the year.

Wyndham City Council will pump in about $12m to fix and maintain more than 60 streets in the municipality.

So far 31 roads have been resurfaced in Hoppers Crossing, Point Cook, Tarneit, Werribee and Wyndham Vale with another 18 to be completed by June as part of a $3m council project.

Council will also invest close to $9m to completely rebuild 12 roads in Wyndham as part of its Road Reconstructions Program, which includes the $5m upgrade of Sayers Rd between Tarneit Rd and Reflections Boulevard.

Wyndham Mayor Susan McIntyre said it was crucial council improved the condition of roads.

“Keeping our roads in prime condition is an ongoing priority for Council,” Cr McIntyre said.

“Road resurfacing prolongs the life of the road by replacing the top layer of asphalt, resulting in more durable roads and improved road safety for all users.

“Council officers regularly monitor our roads right across the municipality and considers feedback from the community to help guide this annual program.”

These works coincide with the state government’s $15.3m redevelopment of the Point Cook and Sneydes roads intersection, with construction to begin in mid-2023 for an early 2024 finish.

The new-look intersection will have new traffic lights, pedestrian crossings and wider lanes, as well as changes to how vehicles enter Point Cook Village and Middle Park Drive to eliminate crash risk.
