A drug dealer in Melbourne’s west caught with weapons, drugs and more than 150 stolen ID cards has been jailed for two years.

Point Cook man Tumsa Abdi faced Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday pleading guilty to numerous charges of trafficking cannabis, cultivating the drug, possession of a firearm and handling stolen goods.

The court heard the 36-year-old’s spate of offending was identified by police during a routine search of his Flemington rental on November 16.

Police attended to serve the man with a firearms prohibition order, locating an imitation firearm, knuckle dusters, ammunition belt with 73 rounds, 376g of cannabis and a “tic book” containing debts.

At the time he told officers they wouldn’t find anything.

In a second room they found two cannabis plants and about 150 to 200 stolen ID cards.

“We suspect they will be subject to further investigations,” a prosecutor said of the odd find.

The court heard Mr Abdi had been on a community corrections order for similar offending at the time, but had shown “little engagement”.

His lawyer, Nicole Menegas, argued the father-of-two had made an effort to reform his behaviour but had recently relapsed into drug taking due to stress.

“He’s suffered a decline in his mental health in recent years and it’s found him back reoffending,” she said.

Ms Menegas conceded that a term of imprisonment was appropriate, but asked he be given another chance on a community corrections order once released.

But Magistrate Angela Bolger disagreed, asking why she should impose another community-based order when he had failed at previous ones.

“This is an abject failure on the part of Mr Abdi to address his issues and undertake corrections orders,” she said.

“It‘s nonsensical to put him back into the community after he’s found reoffending with drugs and guns.”

Abdi was jailed for two years with a non-parole period of 12 months and fined $1500.
