A renowned western suburbs podiatrist has been accused of growing and dealing cannabis, and having a personal supply of cocaine, after police raided his home and a drug lab in Melbourne’s south.

Gerard Vincent Zammit, 42, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday after he was charged by police with trafficking and cultivating cannabis.

Police will allege Mr Zammit cultivated and trafficked a commercial quantity of cannabis in Carrum Downs between December 5, 2023 and July 28, 2024.

Charge sheets released to the Herald Sun say he has also been accused of cultivating and trafficking cannabis out of his Williamstown home after raids in August last year.

Police also seized a personal amount of cocaine and cannabis, which allegedly belonged to Mr Zammit, during the raids.

Mr Zammit was under investigation by Victoria Police’s Clandestine Laboratory Squad, a dedicated specialist resource responsible for the entry, assessment and processing of all suspected drug laboratories and chemical storage sites.

The squad also conducts high-level investigations into serious and organised crime syndicates seeking to manufacture illicit drugs within Victoria.

A cycling enthusiast, Mr Zammit also claimed to have a “very special interest” in children’s podiatry.

The renowned western suburbs podiatrist has 10 locations across the region, including Altona North, Bacchus Marsh, Sunshine and Tullamarine.

Mr Zammit, who had his bail extended, will return to court on June 5 for a committal hearing, where evidence will be tested to see if the matter will head to the County Court.
