The opening of the first David Jones in the west became a reality at Highpoint Shopping Centre today.

The department chain is among 80 fashion retailers who are now opened for business following the completion of a $300 million redevelopment.

David Jones chief executive Paul Zahra and brand ambassador Megan Gale were present to mark the occasion.

The 14,000sq m David Jones runs over levels two and three while the fashion mall houses some of the most sought after brands in the world.

It includes Top Shop, Sass & Bide, Chanel, Peter Alexander, Gap, Olga Berg, Temelli Jewellery, Nike and Speedo.

Zara will open next Thursday while a few other international stores are expected to be announced shortly.

The fashion precinct is the second and final stage of the centre development after the unveiling of the Fresh Food Market and Eco Mall five months ago.

It has created more than 1750 jobs while about 1000 new car spaces have been added to the existing 7000.
