A veteran Melbourne news cameraman who worked for various major media outlets will contest allegations he raped a woman.
Shaun Ryan, 56, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with multiple alleged rape offences.
Mr Ryan, who has worked for media organisations Channel 7 and Channel 9, allegedly raped a victim multiple times in Melbourne’s west.
Investigators alleged the serious sexual offending accusations occurred more than 10 years ago.
Westgate Sexual Offending and Child Abuse Investigation Team members charged Mr Ryan on August 29 last year.
The court heard Mr Ryan would seek to cross-examine multiple witnesses including the police informant and the alleged victim at a contested committal hearing.
The complainant made two statements, the court was told.
Mr Ryan, well known in Melbourne media circles, has covered major news events for many years.
Mr Ryan was also present with a camera during the infamous ‘Egg Boy’ incident at Moorabbin in March 2019, where he was seen holding a camera when then 17-year-old Will Connolly smashed an egg on the head of former Queensland senator Fraser Anning.
The cameraman had his bail extended to front a committal scheduled to commence on November 6.
