A man with a fetish for robbing fast food restaurants in Melbourne’s west has been dished up a six-month jail term.

John Lopez, aged in his early 40s, pleaded guilty to two charges of robbery which took place at fast food restaurants in Wyndham Vale last year.

Lopez fronted Werribee Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday via video link from custody.

The court heard Lopez attended a Subway in Wyndham Vale on October 4 2022, where he demanded cash out of the till and left with $300.

A week later he attended a Wyndham Vale Domino’s restaurant where he walked behind the counter and demanded cash, leaving with $80.

Lopez was placed in custody where he has spent 166 days.

The court heard Lopez has been treated for mental health issues.

Magistrate Kimberley Swadesir said in making her sentence she would “Protect the community but also address (Lopez’s) future rehabilitation”.

Lopez was given an aggregate sentence of six months’ imprisonment and a two-year corrections order.

The court heard he will also be placed on a patient assessment order upon his release.
