Residents of a quiet suburban street in Melbourne’s west were rocked on Wednesday night after an improvised explosive device detonated close to homes.
Police, including officers from the Bomb Squad, attended the scene shortly after 7.30pm, locating what remained of the device on Kelvin Grove in Werribee.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said two further undetonated devices were found nearby and an investigation was ongoing.
Resident Linda Boyd heard the explosion from her home two blocks away, and she was terrified to leave the house.
“Myself and my daughter only live at the house. We just looked at each other and swore,” she said.
“It sounded like it was right outside … like someone had been shot.”
Ms Boyd said she didn’t sleep well that night, fearing the explosions would continue.
Another neighbour, who asked not to be named, saw the bright flash of the explosion through their kitchen window while cleaning dishes.
“I was stunned, this is normally a quiet street,” they said.
“The bang was so loud, I thought a car had blown up.”
The spokeswoman said no one was injured by the blast and urged anyone with information to contact the police.
