One person has been rushed to hospital after a chemical explosion at a factory in Melbourne’s west.

Emergency services raced to Swann Dr in Derrimut after triple-0 call reported a chemical explosion.

On arrival, Fire Rescue Victoria found one worker had received burns from a suspected ignition of flammable vapours which caused a small fire and large amounts of smoke within the building.

Ambulance Victoria treated the man and transported him to the hospital, while everyone else was evacuated from the building.

An FRV spokeswoman said firefighters donned breathing apparatus to identify the source of the explosion.

Victoria Police, WorkSafe and the Fire Investigation Unit are on the scene.
