Police officer injured as Dylan Downes arrested following alleged carjackings

A police officer has been injured in the arrest of a Bacchus Marsh man accused of a crime wave which included two carjackings.

A Bacchus Marsh man has been arrested after police intercepted him following a slew of alleged crimes, including the alleged carjacking of an elderly man at Seymour.

Dylan Downes, 31, was arrested on September 10 following an extensive pursuit by police.

Mr Downes, was seen driving an allegedly stolen truck at Toolern Vale at 8am.

Police attempted to intercept the alleged carjacker, before the car was dumped on Melton Rd, Gisborne South.

It is alleged Mr Downes then carjacked a woman in a white ute.

The woman received minor injuries.

Police continued to follow the Bacchus Marsh man, through Gisborne, Woodend and Lancefield, with assistance from the Air Wing, and deployed stop sticks.

Mr Downes then entered a petrol station where he allegedly collided with another car and a police vehicle.

A police officer was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries after the collision.

Mr Downes allegedly attempted to escape on foot but was arrested at 10.35am.

He was taken into custody and would be interviewed by police.
