A Deer Park man has been charged after allegedly attempting to import about $100,000 of an illicit liquid drug into Victoria from China.
Police from the Prahran Divisional Response Unit raided three properties this week in Laverton North, Deer Park and Oakleigh, seizing 20L of what is alleged to be 1,4 Butanediol.
Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Moreland said 1,4 Butanediol was an “extremely dangerous” drug used to produce GHB — infamously known as a date-rape drug.
“Results such as these are a testament to the collaboration of law enforcement agencies which continue to result in significant seizures of dangerous drugs,” he said.
“Police will continue to work closely with our law enforcement parties around the clock to identify the importation and subsequent distribution of illicit substances.”
He said the unit had worked with the Australian Border Force on the investigation which began more than two months ago on August 3.
A 26-year-old man was arrested in the raids and charged with 11 offences including drug trafficking and possession of a commercial quantity of 1,4 Butanediol.
Police say an imitation firearm, a machete and small amounts of other drugs were seized during the operation.
The Deer Park man was remanded into custody and will next appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on January 11 next year.
