A Melton man accused of stabbing five strangers in Melbourne’s CBD has faced court on additional unrelated assault charges dating back nearly five years.
Christopher Raftopoulos, 32, briefly appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday via video link dressed in prison greens from custody for a range of assault and property damage charges from as far back as 2020.
Mr Raftopoulos faces up to 10 charges for alleged incidents between 2020 and 2022, including intentionally and recklessly causing injury, unlawful assault and stealing a $400 mobile phone.
Court documents also revealed he was charged with damaging wine glasses in December 2020, as well as breaching a family violence intervention order in January 2022.
His court appearance on Tuesday was adjourned for further mention, with the court hearing his psychiatric assessment had been completed while his fitness to plea application was pending.
This recent court appearance comes 10 months after Mr Raftopoulos allegedly stabbed five people in a random attack on January 6 in Melbourne’s CBD.
He unsuccessfully applied for bail in March and spent time at Thomas Embling Hospital, a medium-security mental health hospital, after his arrest.
Mr Raftopoulos will return to court on November 12.
