Thieves steal 60 slabs of beer from Warrnambool racecourse

Police are investigating after thieves stole 60 slabs of beer from Warrnambool Racecourse ahead of its busiest time of year.

Police are investigating after thieves stole 60 slabs of beer from the Warrnambool Racecourse over the weekend.

It is understood thieves broke into a shipping container on the proprety, taking

Great Northerns, Carlton Draught and Carlton Dry.

Warrnambool Racing Club CEO Tom O‘Connor said while it was not ideal, the beers would be restocked in time for the carnival.

“It’s not ideal. They (broke into) some storage containers. We are still working with police to get a little bit more understanding,” Mr O’Connor said.

“It’s only a small portion (of beers) to what we put out during the carnival.”

Mr O’Connor says CCTV will be installed where the beers were stolen.

Police investigations are continuing.

The Warrnambool May Racing Carnival is held from May 3 to 5 and is expected to attract thousands of racegoers across the three-day event.
