Couple missing in Grampians of Victoria’s southwest found safely

A Melbourne couple who went missing after a trip to the rugged Grampians in the state’s west have been found.

A couple who went missing in the Grampians over the weekend have been found safe.

On Monday, emergency services started searching in the rugged part of western Victoria looking for a 50-year-old Murrumbeena man and a 37-year-old Oakleigh woman who were last spotted leaving the Royal Mail Hotel at Parker St in Dunkeld about 11am on Sunday.

A police spokesperson said the pair were expected to return home on Sunday night, in time to pick up their dogs from family members.

The couple last made contact with one of the family members just after 8pm on Saturday night, when they sent a photo of themselves near the Glenelg River Rd.

There were concerns from police prior to the pair being found, for their safety and welfare due to the area‘s isolation, dense vegetation and boggy roads.

It is believed their vehicle may have become bogged in an area outside of mobile phone range and were unable to make contact with anyone, hence their later than expected arrival home.

The woman walked from the scene and reached searchers on Monday afternoon.
