A new aged-care centre in Wantirna will not impact on the operation of a popular market.
The State Government is assuring fans of the Wantirna Trash & Treasure market it won’t be affected by the planned development.
The Wantirna Health Precinct masterplan sets out additional proposed uses for the Wantirna Health site on Mountain Highway for many decades into the future.
The site includes land owned by the Department of Health and Human Services and VicRoads.
This year’s State Budget included more than $81 million for a new 120-bed public residential aged-care service for Wantirna Health.
But in a statement the Department of Health and Human Services said the new aged-care service would have no impact on the Trash & Treasure Market, which is held on the Wantirna Health site every Sunday.
“Apart from the new residential aged-care service, there are no other immediate plans to further develop the site,” the statement said.
The Victorian Planning Authority (VPA) is working in partnership with Knox Council and State Government agencies to establish the new precinct.
The preparation of a masterplan will include specialist technical investigations as well as key stakeholder and community engagement.
The plan will provide a framework to guide the site’s transition towards a specialised health precinct that includes a wide range of complementary medical services, employment, education and research facilities and training opportunities.
According to the Victorian Planning Authority website, the plan and planning scheme amendment will also help the future development of VicRoads land which has been identified as surplus to VicRoads needs.
