The tragic truth about road deaths in Australia

A woman has appeared in court for the first time after being charged over the death of her passenger in a horrific crash north west of Melbourne last year.

Sydenham woman Jessica Glennie, 23, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court for a filing hearing on Monday morning.

She wore a white jacket and surgical mask.

Charge sheets, seen by Leader, show the Major Collision Investigation Unit charged the woman with seven charges late last month.

The charges — including one of culpable driving causing death, two of dangerous driving and one of careless driving — followed a crash on Plumpton Road on September 25, 2021.

Police have previously alleged Glennie lost control of her car and crashed into a power pole just before midnight.

Glennie’s passenger, a 22-year-old Hillside woman, died at the scene.

The charge sheets reveal Glennie’s licence was suspended at the time of the crash, while she allegedly had alcohol and THC in her system.

On Monday Glennie’s bail was extended until her next court date.
