Young guns: 45 leading players from the VMCU rep-cricket carnival

There were centuries, bags of wickets and clutch performances in finals at the VMCU rep cricket carnival. Here’s 45 of the brightest stars.

There were big runs and bags of wickets at the Victorian Metropolitan Cricket Union carnival that wrapped up with grand finals on Sunday.

Here are 45 of the leading performers across the seven sections.

Vana Alex, NWCA

The Tullamarine youngster was the standout bowler of the U12 Fatone Shield carnival with 16 wickets at a stunning average of 3.75. Took 2-14 in the final to set up victory.

Ben Austin, FTGDCA

The Ferntree Gully young gun collected 17 wickets at 10, including a telling spell of 3-13 off 7 overs in the final of the U16 MacKay Cup.

Muhammad Ayaz, DDCA

Captured 14 wickets at 8.7 to top the U16 Beitzel Shield bowling chart.

Jessie Bartlett, RDCA

Showed her class by topping the U12 Fatone Shield run chart with 192, at 32 — including two half centuries in her six innings.

Ahaan Bhardwaj, RDCA

Turned heads with a string of exceptional bowling performances in the U12 Browne Plate, taking 19 wickets at 4.2, including hauls of 4-11, 4-14 and 5-3.

Lucian Bickford, ECA

The Clifton Hill product finished the U14 Allen Shield tournament with 16 wickets at 7.5, including 5-15 against the MPCA.

Ryder Costigan, WRJCA

The Spotswood all-rounder delivered a special innings in the biggest game of the U12 Browne Plate, blasting 47no off 31 balls (6 fours, 2 sixes) at No. 9 to help Western Region win the title. Also took eight wickets for the carnival.

Charlie Damiano, SECA

His match-winning 51no in the final oozed class and took his average to 103 as the SECA won its 16th Mitchell Shield title in 30 years.

Shaivi Desai, NWMCA

The NWMCA captain produced the bowling display of the tournament in the grand final, taking 4-21 to set up victory. She then hit 34 retired not out (4 fours) to cap a dream day.

Aidan Devgan, WRJCA

Began the U12 Browne Plate carnival with a hattrick in a haul of 4-17 and added three bags of three wickets to finish a memorable VMCU campaign with 15 wickets at 9.3.

Pranavi Dhame, AGCC

With scores of 21no, 35no, 55, 23 and 20, as well as seven wickets, the Glen Waverley all-rounder was among the leading performers in the U17 Jones Shield.

Puneet kaur Dhillon, WRCA

The Werribee dynamo captured 15 wickets at 4.8 to top the Jones Shield bowling charts, including an eye-popping 6-2 off 4 overs against the MPCA.

Declan Hudson, ECA

The Northcote United young gun peeled off scores of 34, 51, 79 and 44 for a tournament total of 214 at 42 in the U18 Arnold Shield.

Muhammad Abubakar Imran, ECA

This rising star topped both the runs and wickets charts in a dominant display, making 210 runs at 70 and taking 16 wickets at 6.7, including 5-32 in the final.

Yohan Jees, DVCA

The Laurimar run machine peeled off five successive half centuries and made the most runs in Beitzel Shield, 394, at 65.

Finn Johnson, RDCA

The keeper-batter from Chirnside Park underlined his potential with 251 runs, as well as 7 catches and 4 stumpings.

Om Joshi, ECA

Was a model of consistency as he churned out 313 runs at 104 in the top order for Eastern, topping the Mitchell Shield runs chart.

Charlie Lincoln, MPCA

The exciting talent from Balnarring blasted 28 boundaries on his way to 209 runs, at 62, with three scores of 60 underlining his potential.

Nathaniel Lucas, RDCA

The Seville opener’s class shone when it mattered most, scoring 69 in the Beitzel Shield final to set up victory, and the finished the carnival with 186 runs at 31.

Isobel McBride, ECA

The ECA skipper peeled off a run a ball 40 retired and a couple of 30s as she averaged a touch under 50, with 149 runs in an excellent carnival.

Audrey McKinley, ECA

The determined opener made a vital 48 in the Jones Shield grand final to set up victory and finished the carnival with 212 runs at 35.

Will Mayers, MPCA

The Langwarrin new ball bowler was a model of consistency in the U18 Arnold Shield, taking a tournament-best 12 wickets at 12, always applying pressure.

Arjun Mullapudi, WRJCA

The classy keeper batter piled on the runs with scores of 64, 48, 70 and 36 for a carnival-high total of 249 at 62.

Guliya Neal, SECA

The talented all-rounder was a key figure with bat and ball for the SECA, hitting 137 runs and taking 11 wickets.

Teagan Pitt, RDCA

The Warranwood product topped the Savage Shield runs chart with 196, including a brilliant 66no off 70 balls (9 fours, 1 six) in a preliminary round.

Elodie Powyer, ECA

Had a big impact with bat and ball, averaging 60 with the bat (181 runs) and snaring five wickets in the U14 Savage Shield.

William Reid, RDCA

Showed his class with a clutch display in the grand final of the Nolan Cup, taking 2-21 and scoring 60no off 52 balls to steer Ringwood to victory. Finished with 181 runs at 30.

Ayden Robinson, RDCA

Enjoyed a consistent Beitzel Shield campaign with 14 wickets at 9.3, including a brilliant performance of 5-22 off 9 overs against the MPCA.

Alyssa Rowe, BHRCA

Her superb unbeaten 100 off 140 balls (9 fours) against Ferntree Gully was the innings of the Jones Shield tournament and she topped the runs chart with 260 at 65.

Rishaan Sandhu, RDCA

Was a key figure in Ringwood’s title triumph. He made the most runs in the tournament, 197, at 49, including an unbeaten 55 in the final.

Charles Seeber, FTGDCA

His superb 62 (8 fours) fired Ferntree Gully to victory in the U16 MacKay Cup final over DVCA. The Basin opener finished a memorable canrival with 230 runs at 28.

Anhad bir Singh, NWMCA

Had an excellent Beitzel Shield campaign with 18 wickets at 10, including 5-19, and made handy runs.

Yashwant Singh, DDCA

The Lynbrook young gun had everyone talking with a swashbuckling 111no off 60 balls (with 19 fours) for the DDCA in the Mitchell Shield and he finished his campaign with 303 runs at 60.

Gurek Singh Sangha, DDCA

Was in the runs in every game, and finished as the leading run scorer in the Nolan Cup with 266, at 66, including three half centuries.

Ruby Smith, All Girls

Collected a comp-high 13 wickets including two four-fas, averaging 6.5.

Lauren Soo, ECA

Capped a dream Jones Shield tournament with 3-9 in the final. Finished with 13 wickets at 7 and also made 164 runs at 23.

Cooper Sticht, RDCA

The hard-hitting opener blitzed 97 off 62 balls and also 82 off 73 on his way to topping the Arnold Shield runs chart with 257 at 36.

Billy Thomson, MPCA

The Carrum all-rounder showed his class with an excellent Arnold Shield campaign, making 184 runs at 46 and taking 11 wickets at 11 in the MPCA’s title triumph.

Harry Tingay, FTGDCA

Struck telling blows in the MacKay Cup final with 4-30 to set up victory over DVCA and also made an unbeaten 28 to steer his side over the line. Finished the tournament with 271 runs at 38 as well as 20 wickets at 8.3.

Lachlan Torney, RDCA

Churned out five successive scores of 39 or more on his way to 261 at 52 for the tournament in the Nolan Cup.

James Vandenberg, DDCA

Came up big in the Allen Shield grand final, making 42 (8 fours) after going in at 3-20, his fighting innings helping the DDCA triumph. Also took five wickets in the tournament.

Kasper Zylstra, MPCA

The stylish right-hand opener stood tall in the pressure of the Arnold Shield grand final, making 77 off 78 balls, sending 11 to the boundary and two over it.

Asher Vaughan, DDCA

The Under 14 captain took 3-23 in the grand final triumph. Also made vital runs, including a knock of 60no in an early round match.

Xanthe Wright Hall, NWMCA

Made a vital 46no in the grand final to set up victory and finished the Savage Shield campaign with 140 runs and a growing reputation as a keeper batter with a bright future.

Kasper Zylstra, MPCA

The stylish right-hand opener stood tall in the pressure of the Arnold Shield grand final, making 77 off 78 balls, sending 11 to the boundary and two over it.
