EOGHAN Delany capped his first appearance as Preston skipper with a century as the Bullants posted 218 against Mount Waverley on Saturday.
The Irishman held Preston’s innings together after it had been reduced to 5-45 at Mount Waverley Reserve, sharing a 125-run sixth-wicket stand with Chaminda Vidanapathirana (60).

Delany was the last man out for 100 in the final over of the day, eclipsing his previous best of 85 not out for the club.
Milan Fernando (2-49), Hugh Birchall (4-41) and Jake Rigby (1-44) did the early damage for the hosts as Preston lost 5-16 after a 29-run opening partnership between Kyle Walsh (12) and Daniel Franco (19).
Rigby started the flourish of wickets when he bowled Walsh, before his new-ball partner Alex Deuchar (2-51) had Greg Maratos (2) caught by Ranveer Mamidpelliwar.
Franco was the next to fall, the first of Birchall’s four victims, before Michael Millier snared catches off Fernando to remove Liam Ingram (0) and first-gamer Fionn Hand (0).
Facing a firestorm from the dangerous Mt Waverley bowling attack, Delany and Vidanapathirana thwarted the Roos’ attempts to make further inroads.
Their stand was ended when Vidanapathirana was run out, a wicket which sparked a minor collapse of 3-17.
Batting with the tail, Delany pushed his side’s total beyond 200 and reached triple figures late in the day.
The pair’s innings-salvaging partnership put the Round 1 North-East group fixture back on level terms after the opening day of the 2018-19 VSDCA campaign.
