Reigning two-time Holten Medallist Sahan Perera headlines a strong VSDCA representative team.
The Subbies XI will take on country Victoria’s best in a one-day clash at Port Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, December 14.
Perera is one of three league medallists in the line-up.
He’s joined by 2023-24 joint winner Glen Parker of Brighton and Caulfield’s four-time winner Jacob Thorne.
Kew premiership captain David Wildsmith will lead a squad brimming with big-game experience.
Vaib Deshpande, Preston premiership captain and captain of the VSDCA Team of the Year and Spotswood premiership captain Dan Schuppan also feature.
The rep team will also see Sri Lanka (Perera), India (Deshpande), Pakistan (Shakeel Ahmad) and England (Josh Lawrenson) represented.
After smashing several records last year, becoming the first Subbies batter to pass 1000 runs, Perera is again the leading run-scorer in the association.
The Noble Park star has 376 runs at an average of 75.2 as well as 13 wickets at 12.69.
Thorne leads the VSDCA wicket-taker charts with 22 scalps at 13.95.
Parker (367 runs at 91.75), Lawrenson (353 at 58.83) and Deshpande (345 at 57.5) are all having strong campaigns with the bat.
Adam Yates (17 wickets at 13.24, 216 runs at 43.2) and Michael Topp (15 at 12.93) have been impressive with the ball.
Perera was at the forefront of last year’s drought-breaking win over the VCCL, scoring a 90-ball century, in the four-wicket win.
Wildsmith scored a half-century as the Subbies team chased down 271 at the Junction Oval.
Nilan Fernando (Taylors Lakes), Jermaine Levy (Noble Park) and Max Tryfonos (Malvern) are on standby for the match.
Meanwhile, the Victorian Country Cricket League will have 12 of its 14-player squad available for the clash.
It’s understood Jake Toohey (Ferntree Gully) and Nathan Walsh (Lysterfield) will both be unavailable for the December 14 clash.
However, there will still be plenty of firepower.
Langwarrin’s Matt Calder recently produced what may be the fastest century in Mornington Peninsula cricket history.
The former Casey-South Melbourne opener blasted an extraordinary 111 not out off just 39 balls in a Twenty20 match, blasting 10 sixes and eight fours.
Ben Fulford has represented Victoria at the Australian Country Cricket Championships and won multiple premierships in Cricket Albury Wodonga, while Dale Kerr is one of the most feared players in the Geelong region having moved to North Geelong two years ago.
