Dale Tormey no longer plays Premier Cricket — but he remains a premier talent.

Work commitments forced the left-hander to drop down to local cricket a few years ago, but the Swans called him up for the inaugural Super Slam and tonight he gave the Tigers some fearful tap.

Tormey blasted 76 off 36 deliveries, with 7 sixes and 4 fours, to help the hosts surge past 200 in the Melbourne Stars Conference clash at Casey Fields.

Captain Luke Wells and Tormey laced 129 for the first wicket, Wells falling for 53 in the 13th over for 53 off 43 deliveries (2 fours, 3 sixes).

Tormey’s hurricane hand ended in the next over when he was caught and bowled by Adam Amin, who is more renowned as a wicketkeeper-batsman than a bowler.

Jordie Wyatt cracked 36 not out off 21 balls and Lachie Sperling 18 off 10 as the Swans set their visitors the daunting target of 4-201.

They didn’t come close, being dismissed for 130 in 15.2 overs. Jackson Waters did best for the Tigers with 48.

Former Sri Lankan international Nuwan Kulasekara grabbed three early wickets, including the dashing Amin for a duck with the second ball of the innings, and finished with 3-17 off three overs.

Wells nabbed 5-30 with his brisk spinners, completing a fine double.

It was the Swans’ first victory of the T20 tournament; they lost both their matches on Sunday.

Swans director of cricket Craig Lambden said Tormey’s innings was spectacular.

“There was no ground big enough for him tonight. He smashed it. He was hitting sixes into the wind and it was probably blowing 35, 40kmh,’’ Lambden said.

“It was huge. And they were all proper cricket shots.

“But all of our boys batted well.’’

Tormey played 61 matches for Hawthorn-Monash University and another 25 for Fitzroy-Doncaster, finishing at Premier level in 2012-13 and with two centuries. He had a spell at Chelsea Heights Aspendale Gardens before joining Pakenham in the synthetic-wicket West Gippsland competition this season. Tormey has peeled off scores off scores of 77, 45, 131, 6 and 177 in his five innings for the Lions.
