It was spectacular batting.

Cameron Williams, a bricklayer from Warrnambool, blitzed 187 off 125 balls.

Nathan Walsh, the brilliant batsman from Ferntree Gully, hammered a run-a-ball 127.

Victoria Country XI finished with a formidable 4-394 runs off 50 overs.

It all added up to a thumping win for the Vics over Philippines (9-125) in Round 3 of the Australian Country Cricket Championships in Canberra on Monday.

Williams opened the batting and scorched 20 fours and 5 sixes.

Walsh put away 8 fours and 3 sixes.

The pair shared a 235-run third wicket partnership, taking the score from 2-75 to 2-310, in a hurry.

“I’ve never seen anything like it, to be honest,’’ Victorian coach Peter Buchanan said.

“They batted well, got hold of them, big time.’’

Buchanan said Williams, who didn’t give a chance until after he was a hundred, combined power with poise.

“He did bat well but you’ve still got to do it,’’ he said.

“He got us off to a flyer, then he went back a gear, just batted smart. He was in a lot of nick.’’

It was probably just as well for the Philippines that Victorian opener Brayden Stepien missed out, caught behind for 21 off 13 balls.

“He got the best ball of the day, nicked off,’’ Buchanan said.

The Philippines bowling attack included Fitzroy Doncaster spinner Liam Myott, who took 0-40 off 10 overs.

Victorian captain Lee Stockdale chipped in with 36 not out off 29 balls.

Victoria sits atop of the ladder, undefeated after comprehensive wins over Queensland, South Australia and Philippines.

Buchanan said the Vics’ clash with fellow undefeated side NSW on Tuesday was a “like a mini-final’’.

“We’re in a good position in that we’ve got 14 fit blokes,’’ he said.

“If we can beat NSW our net run rate is pretty good because we’ve made a lot of runs and taken wickets.’’

The national title will go to the side which finishes on top of the ladder. There’s no final this year.

“If we can win (against NSW on Tuesday) and win one more of the last two it will probably be enough to win it I reckon,’’ Buchanan said.

Mornington Peninsula all-rounder Aidan Lenehan and Warrnambool’s Ethan Boyd made their Victorian debuts, with Lenehan taking 2-19 off 7 overs and Boyd 2-13 off 7 overs.
