Mornington Peninsula has fielded an Over 60s side for many years but this is the region’s first foray into Over 50s.
Some of the the MPCA’s finest players of yesteryear will be in the Peninsula side.
Pines champion Stephen “Stella’’ Jackson and Heatherhill’s games record holder David “Scabs” Martin headline a talented line-up, which also includes Frankston YCW evergreen Craig “Burger’’ Burch, ageless Crib Point star Henry Dolphin and Baden Powell great John Harrison.
Former Frankston Peninsula and Karingal all-rounder Craig Symons will come out of a 10-year retirement to play, dodgy shoulder and all.
Premiership-winning Pines footy coach and avid cricketer Paddy Swayn will don the wicket keeping gloves and Langwarrin pair Jamie Jewiss and Al Davie will bolster the batting.
Mornington Peninsula Veterans Cricket Club president Ian Rowland said it’s a great opportunity for “old and new friends’’ to come together and “be part of history’’.
The Over 50s side will play five games this summer — the second game is at Nyora on December 6 — and more players are required.
“We need a playing base of up to 20 to allow for selection flexibility,’’ Rowland said.
“If you know of any prospective players, please invite them along.’’
Sunday’s game hits off at 12 midday. The bar will be open.
