Update: Premier and Subbies cricket called off

Victorian Premier Cricket officials have confirmed they join other turf competitions in calling off weekend matches, while a proposal to clubs for next weekend has been made.

Victorian Premier Cricket have decided to call off play for this weekend amid heavy mid-week rainfalls.

Premier cricket officials confirmed the decision on Friday morning.

“Due to the rainfall received over the past couple of days and reports from clubs on the status of their grounds, Victorian Premier Cricket has made the decision to abandon play in ALL Victorian Premier Cricket Matches scheduled for the weekend,” the statement said.

Premier cricket joins Sub-District and a number of other turf competitions across the state in calling off play this weekend.

Talks are underway between premier cricket clubs and officials in turning the round two clash into a Saturday-Sunday two-day game next week.

An official said the move would come down to what clubs preferred.

“Ultimately it will come down to what the majority of clubs would prefer and then the ability for us to juggle the matches which clash with Women’s games,” an official said.

The Victorian Sub-District cricket competition made the decision to abandoned round one matches on Thursday afternoon.

“The VSDCA Board has decided to abandon all games scheduled for Saturday October 15,” the statement said.

“Round One will now be abandoned and we will move onto Round 2, which will be played as a One Day game on Saturday October 22.”
