A cricket club in Melbourne’s northwest says it is getting “sick and tired of idiots” who continue to ruin its facilities.

Tullamarine, which competes in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association, was left frustrated on Sunday morning when a committee member discovered what appear to be bike tracks throughout its pitch.

It’s the second time Leo Dineen Reserve has been targeted since the start of the new year.

Three weeks ago, vandals sprayed graffiti across the club’s interchange bench and scoreboard.

Containers which are acting as the club’s temporary change rooms as were also targeted.

In a social media post at the weekend, the club said it was getting “sick and tired of idiots destroying our club”.

Tullamarine president Justin Shield said the frustration had continued to build from the weekend.

“Unfortunately we’ve got some people in our local community who want to target community clubs like ourselves,” he said.

“We’ve only just had the graffiti fixed and that’s come out of our own pocket. A few of us were at the ground until about 10 on Saturday night and went our separate ways once the sprinklers had been turned off.

“Then when our treasurer turned up on Sunday morning, he found the damaging. The ground’s curator is only a volunteer so it’s an insult to them and I just don’t understand how people can do it.

“We’ve had people try and pull sponsor signs down around the ground.

“It’s really frustrating for everyone involved at the club.”

Despite the damage to the ground, Tullamarine is confident day two of its clash with St Francis de Sales will go ahead on Saturday afternoon.

Shield, who is playing in the game, said it was a credit to the kurator and local council.

“Hume City Council’s turf management team and our kurator are confident we’ll be able to get on which is fantastic,” he said.

“It’s a pretty important game for us because we’re in a good position against the team that’s second on the ladder.”

In a social media post on the Hume Police Service Area Eyewatch page on Thursday afternoon, investigators appealed for information.

“Police are appealing for public help in relation to an incident at the Leo Dineen Reserve on Spring St in Tullamarine in the early hours of 29 January,” the post said.

“It’s believed an unknown number of offenders went to the reserve on motorbikes and performed burn outs and circles on the cricket pitch, causing significant damage.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.
