The red ball will be flying again in Victorian Premier Cricket next season as the men’s competition goes back to a more familiar fixture list.

Covid meant all of last season’s matches were played as one-dayers.

But two-day games will return in 2021-22.

And Twenty20 will also be resuming.

Cricket Victoria competitions manager Darren Anderson said CV had sent out two options to the clubs about men’s fixtures and both included two and one-day cricket.

Clubs have been asked to comment and from the feedback a draw will be devised.

There will be either 15 or 17 rounds.

“I think everyone is looking forward to getting back to what we previously experienced and hope we can get back on the park with a full run at it and with no interruptions,’’ Anderson said.

The Super Slam competition was scrapped last season but Anderson said T20 would be returning.

“It is back on the agenda. We’re hoping it can take place on Tuesday nights in the December-January period,’’ he said.

But the future of the national T20 tournament – won by Carlton in its first year – remains up in the air.

The Dowling Shield, to fly again as an Under 17 competition, is likely to be staged in January and February.

The women’s Premier Cricket First XI competition will return to a 21-round season with a mix of Twenty20 and one-day matches.

There will be a separate T20 grand final.

The women’s Seconds and Thirds will play an 18-round season, with Geelong coming on board.

Meanwhile, the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association will be playing 15 rounds next season, with seven two-day and eight one-day games.

“Thankfully we’ll be going back to a more traditional season in 2021-22,’’ secretary Ken Hilton said.

The Subbies will also be staying with a final six after weighing up a top-eight finals system.

Both sections will have 16 teams next season after the addition of Port Melbourne, Spotswood, Strathmore and Donvale, making for a 32-club competition.
