SFL: INJURED FEV STILL SNAGS EIGHT
Former Carlton and Brisbane spearhead Brendan Fevola shook off a back injury in his cameo appearance for Sandown Cobras, slotting eight goals in a best-on-ground performance against Lyndale. The Cobras got home by four points on the back of Fev’s heroics. At one point, Fev reportedly told his opponent Shannon Schofield not to run off him because he couldn’t move, but the ex-AFL sharpshooter proved his class in front of a healthy crowd.

YVMDFL: HEALESVILLE CONTINUES TO SURPRISE
Healesville coach Bryan Cole told his players “away wins are gold” after the surprise packet continued its fine start to 2015 with a 120-point thrashing of Mount Evelyn on Saturday.
The Bloods move to second on the table after the win over last year’s preliminary finalist, equal on points with highly-fancied sides Belgrave, Monbulk and Woori Yallock. Jordan Shaw was the star with six goals in the triumph.
WRFL: MATCH ABANDONED DUE TO INJURY
The Western Region Football League will decide on the outcome of Sunshine Kangaroos’ clash with Deer Park this week after the fixture was abandoned on Saturday. Play was stopped in the first term due to a serious injury.
VFL: SIXTH-GAMER SHINES IN BREAKTHROUGH WIN
Werribee broke through for its first VFL win in 10 years at North Port Oval on the back of two unlikely heroes. Billy Iles and James Hussey spearheaded the Tigers’ stirring 12-point win. In just his sixth senior match, Iles bagged six majors, while Hussey blanketed Port Melbourne star Chris Cain.
EDFL: EAST SUNBURY BREAKS THROUGH
Wins have been few and far between for East Sunbury since it entered the Essendon District Football League, but the Thunder had reason to celebrate on Saturday. The club’s 15.17 (107) to 11.10 (76) victory over Burnside Heights was its first triumph since Round 8 last year, when it got the better of Burnside Heights by 38 points. Ashley Fleming was the star for East Sunbury with six goals.
NFL: PROMOTED CLUB KEEPS WINNING
Thomastown set it sights on maintaining its place in Northern Football League Division 2 after winning last year’s Division 3 grand final in commanding fashion. It might be time for Dean Sinclair’s men to re-evaluate their goals after their fourth win in as many matches against Whittlesea on Saturday. The Bears got home by four points, claiming their fourth win by 14 points or less this season.
