Some of Victoria’s most promising cricketers will get a chance to impress state selectors on Sunday.
A Victoria invitational XI and Victorian Premier Cricket XI will clash at the Junction Oval for an opportunity to press their case for Sheffield Shield selection.
Current Premier Cricket leader Carlton and second-placed Northcote have two representatives, while third-placed Melbourne will have five players involved in the clash.
In all, 11 Premier Cricket clubs are represented.
Exciting young talents, Ash Chandrasinghe and Dylan Brasher will open for the Invitational XI, while Harry Dixon, Liam Blackford, Tom O’Connell and Harkirat Bajwa have also been picked.
Chandrasinghe turned a breakout 2021-22 season into a Sheffield Shield debut in October, scoring a century on debut against Tasmania.
Brasher has been rewarded for a superb northern summer, where he top-scored in the Darwin District competition with 851 runs and shared the Wiese Medal with Chandrasinghe.
Casey-South Melbourne opener Luke Manders and red-hot Melbourne skipper Blake Thomson will open for the Premier Cricket XI, while also features the likes of Damon Egan, Harry Smyth, Jack Lalor, Jack Harper and veteran wicket-takers Michael Topp and Liam Bowe.
