We’re getting closer to the business end of the season and Premier Cricket’s elite are hitting top form.

There was no shortage of standout performances in Round 13 making Team of the Week selections a difficult choice.

The nine games were full of eye-catching performances with bat, ball and in the field.

Melbourne’s big win over Ringwood saw three players selected but the Rams weren’t forgotten, while Carlton, Essendon, Richmond, Geelong, Footscray, Fitzroy Doncaster and Casey-South Melbourne are also represented.

JAMES SEYMOUR (Essendon)

Is he the most in-form batsman in Australia outside the state systems? Seymour brought up 600 Premier Cricket runs with his second century of the season on Saturday and is averaging a casual 108.50. The Essendon opener has failed to reach 50 twice in his nine games. TWICE. His 113 not out is also the third time he’s finished unbeaten this season. Remarkable.

SCOTT EDWARDS (Richmond) (WK)

The wicketkeeper-batsman continued his golden summer with an unbeaten 101 in the Tigers’ upset win over Northcote. Edwards took his season aggregate 579 runs at 52.6, a tally which includes two tons and five half-centuries, underlining his consistency. The 24-year-old is the competition’s fourth most prolific batsman. Snaffled three catches behind the stumps, so can take the gloves as well.

BRAYDEN STEPIEN (Carlton)

After scores of 19, 18 and six since returning from Big Bash League duties with Melbourne Renegades, the Carlton star put Kingston Hawthorn’s bowling attack to the sword. Stepien crunched 81 from 49 delivers, blasting half-a-dozen sixes and the same number of fours. The knock lifted Stepien’s season tally to 487 runs at 69.6 from only eight matches.

EAMONN VINES (Geelong)

Premier Cricket’s most prolific batsman this season – breaking the 700-run barrier on Saturday – and reminding Victoria selectors of his immense quality. Vines scored 76 runs against St Kilda in a patient 134-ball display that only included three boundaries. He very nearly carried the bat, falling with only 31 runs left to get and his Cats teammates were able to finish the job.

SAM HARPER (Melbourne)

The Melbourne Renegades star set the tone for Melbourne with a rampaging knock at the top of the order. Harper smashed 92 from 100 balls against Ringwood, including five fours and a trio of sixes. The knock is comfortably his best performance in six Premier Cricket matches this season. Didn’t register a dismissal with the gloves so he can field in this team.

EJAAZ ALAVI (Fitzroy Doncaster)

The Lions skipper again stakes his claim for ‘all-rounder’ status with a career-best hand of 89 at No.6 in his team’s win over Dandenong. Always highly-rated as a left-arm spinner, Alavi’s 87-ball knock was action packed and took his season tally to 226 runs to go with 17 wickets.

JACK PRESTWIDGE (Melbourne)

The Big Bash League all-rounder tore through Ringwood’s top order to deliver a hammer blow to the Rams’ upset hopes. Tim Rogers (six), Josh Hartill (three), Jack Blain (three) and Ian Holland (two) all fell to the Demons star in a devastating spell. It ensured a 148-run bonus point victory for Melbourne that sees it moves into second on the Premier Cricket ladder.

HAMISH WINTER-IRVING (Footscray)

It has not been a memorable season for the experienced Winter-Irving, who entered Saturday’s clash against Casey-South Melbourne with three First XI wickets to his name. But the Dogs paceman responded firstly with team-high score of 39 before destroying the Swans with a haul of 5-22 from nine overs in Footscray’s 19-run triumph.

NATHAN LAMBDEN (Casey-South Melbourne)

Returning to the Casey-South Melbourne Fist XI for the first time since Round 3, the burly paceman put the Swans in the box seat with his 4-19 against Footscray but the batsmen couldn’t back him up. Lambden picked up the key wicket of Dean Russ and later broke the critical partnership between Dylan Kight and Hamish Winter-Irving, triggering a collapse of 3-13.

PATRICK ASHTON (Ringwood)

His team lost the match emphatically, but the Rams captain was impossible to overlook for a spot in our team after grabbing 5-37 from 10 overs, including the scalps of Sam Harper, Meyrick Buchanan and Cameron White. Ashton had gone wicketless since the opening round, when he took 3-13.

SAM MILLS (Richmond)

Mills is having an impressive campaign for the Tigers and restricted Northcote with a season-best haul of 4-33 from 10 overs. He has 18 wickets at 18.7 apiece in 2020-21 and has supported the likes of Marcus Berryman and Dom Matarazzo to help form a dangerous bowling line-up.

12TH MAN – KIERAN ELLIOTT (Melbourne)

The Demons star claimed the third best figures of the week but get shuffled back to 12th man duties due to team balance. Elliott’s 4-20 – including the wicket of Ryder Medallist David King – helped skittle Ringwood as Melbourne claimed a 148-run win and bonus point. The bag takes his season total to 20 scalps – 12th in the competition.
