ROMSEY’S relentless pursuit of the perfect Riddell District Football League season continued on Saturday as it swept aside Rockbank by 45 points.

The 12.13 (85) to 6.4 (40) victory took Romsey’s record to 11 wins from 11 matches ahead of their clash against Riddell this weekend.

The Dean Helmers-coached Redbacks never looked like being beaten at Romsey Park as Phillip Lobb, Shaun Austin and Anthony Trigg provided the impetus for their win.

Riddell had the bye on Saturday and enters this weekend’s clash four points behind Romsey.

In other results, Sunbury Kangaroos cemented their top-six spot with a comfortable 49-point win against Melton Centrals.

The 14.12 (96) to 7.5 (47) win gave Sunbury an eight-point gap over Centrals after 11 matches.

Dylan Murphy and Ryan Pretty shared eight goals for Sunbury.

Woodend-Hesket overcame its own inaccuracy to record a six-point win over Wallan.

The Hawks kicked 2.8 in the second quarter and finished with 10.20, but fell on the right side of the result to claim their third win.

Diggers Rest did what it was expected to, claiming the points against Macedon, but not without a fright from the Cats.

Macedon was electric in the opening quarter, kicking 5.2 to 2.5, but floundered from quarter-time onwards.

The Burras put the clamps on from the second quarter, keeping Macedon goal-less for the rest of the match to run away with a 17-point win.

Broadford had 11 individual goalkickers in its 60-point win over Kilmore, while Rupertswood accounted for Lancefield with ease.

All eyes will now be on Riddells Creek Reserve as the top two do battle on Saturday, while Rupertswood can cement its top-four spot with a win over Melton Centrals.
