LONG-TIME competition cellar dweller Rockbank is confident of playing finals this season after pushing itself into the Riddell District Football League’s top six on the weekend.

The Rams, who recorded just six wins last season, picked up their fourth victory from seven outings in style with a 100-point triumph over Macedon at Ian Cowie Reserve, 22.13 (145) to 7.3 (45).

The match was a one-sided affair from the start, the home side kicking six goals in the opening term to open up a 30-point lead at the first change.

And it only got better from there for Rockbank, who further widened the gap between the sides with an impressive nine-goal third term to run out a big winner.

“It was something we’d been working towards so it was good,” Rockbank coach Robbie Lynch said.

“Instead of just winning games, the guys know they can put a team away. So it was a really good learning experience for us.”

Jake Armistead was best-on-ground, racking up plenty of touches through the middle of the ground and floating forward to finish with four goals, while Allan Hill (three goals) and Christopher Warrell (four goals) were others to impress for the Rams.

The win saw Rockbank’s percentage climb by more than 19 points to 92.16, Lynch hopeful that would climb this weekend as his side eyes another big victory over a winless Kilmore.

“Our aim this week is obviously to do the same thing at Kilmore. We definitely see ourselves playing finals. We want to lock that in as soon as possible,” he said.

“It’s an all right draw. We knocked Sunbury off early in the season but we want to definitely knock off another top-four side throughout the year. But everything’s on track.”

Elsewhere on Saturday, Diggers Rest was brought back to earth as it copped a 60-point loss at the hands of Sunbury Kangaroos just a week after taking down reigning premier Riddell by 43 points.

Melton Centrals had the bye.
