REIGNING Kyneton best and fairest Ben Weightman could miss the next month of the Bendigo Football League season as he battles a persistent back injury.

The on-baller missed the Tigers’ 20.18 (138) to 5.8 (38) loss against Strathfieldsaye on Saturday due to a bulging disc in his back.

Weightman’s injury added to the list of walking wounded at Kyneton, with about 10 senior players unavailable.

“We’re not sure how long he could be, it could be four weeks (out),” Kyneton director of football Rick Egan said.

“He’s getting treatment for it at the moment, but we’ve just got to wait and see.

“It’s been plaguing him for most of the year.”

The club’s lengthy injury list also includes Ryan Carafa, although the Tigers hope he could return from a neck injury against Castlemaine this weekend.

“Those senior players are out and we just lack depth,” Egan said.

“We always knew our depth was going to be an issue, we just didn’t expect to have so many injuries.”

Egan said the Tigers were confident their fortunes would improve once they had a full list to choose from.

“It depends when they’re back, that’s sort of an unknown,” he said.

Strathfieldsaye was merciless at Kyneton Showgrounds on Saturday, making the most of a fast start.

The Storm slammed on seven goals to one in the opening quarter and never looked back, Samuel Mildren and Matthew Ferguson combining for 11 goals in their side's win.

Alik Magin was Kyneton’s best player in the loss, which left the Tigers seventh on the table after six matches.

Elsewhere, Gisborne succumbed by 74 points against Eaglehawk.

The Dogs were in the hunt at quarter-time but faded badly after the first break, going down 19.17 (131) to 9.4 (58) at Gardiner Reserve.

Gisborne hosts fourth-placed Sandhurst this weekend.
