Perrin has joined Premier Cricket rival Prahran, reuniting with former Tasmanian teammate Jake Hancock at the True Blues.
Prahran cricket operations manager Bryce McGain said Perrin’s friendship with Hancock, the club’s off-field support and the benefits of playing closer to his Elwood home lured him to Toorak Park.
“It was obviously a really big decision. We certainly respect Fitzroy Doncaster and how they’ve been a big part of his development,” McGain said.
“He didn’t take it lightly and it took some time. We certainly gave him that time and space to make it and last week he decided Prahran was where he saw his future.”
Perrin returned to Fitzroy Doncaster last year after he was cut by Tasmania but endured a difficult 2018-19.
Back and side strain setbacks limited Perrin to nine games, taking just eight wickets.
It was a frustrating return for bowler that took 50 wickets at 10.62 in 2015-16.
He spent the following two seasons in Tasmania, where he made three first-class appearances.
McGain it was hoped Perrin could return to the heights of three years ago.
“We know he is incredibly capable with the ball and he just needs his body to support what he does,” McGain said.
“We’ll be giving him every chance in that regard but we know he is incredibly talented.
“He does it at pace but moves the ball and we’re hoping he’ll get on top of all the physical ailments that he’s suffered from since he’s come back from Tasmania.”
McGain said Perrin would spearhead Prahran’s attack as the True Blues look for their first finals appearance since 2015-16.
“Prahran needs that, we need a strike bowler and we need someone who can do that,” he said.
“We need someone who is strong who can bowl with pace and bowl a lot of overs. He fit the bill for exactly where Prahran has a gap.”
