Jon Holland will chase wickets, and plenty of them, for Frankston Peninsula next season.

The 36-year-old spinner, who was dropped from Victoria’s contract list for next season, is keen to play on at Premier Cricket level.

It’s understood he has been inundated with offers from clubs since being overlooked by the Vics earlier this month.

His commitment to Frankston Peninsula is a huge boost for the club as it looks to contest the Premier finals in 2023-24.

“We’ve retained Jon Holland,” Frankston Peninsula general manager Mike Ronchi said.

“He’s committed to continue playing with the Heat.”

Holland played four Tests for Australia in 2016 and 2018 and has taken 298 first-class wickets since his debut in 2008.

He is likely to be available to play every match for the Heat next season.

“That’s the plan,” Ronchi said.

“And Jon will get involved in our pathway programs as well, doing a bit of specialist coaching.

“That’s where he wants to keep his hand in the game moving forward.

“Everyone gives him huge wraps as far as his cricket brain goes.”

Holland has played 11 seasons with Frankston Peninsula since 2010, taking 73 wickets in 40 matches in between state and national duties.

Frankston Peninsula wicketkeeper Jacques Augustin will play on next season. The Holland-Augustin combination will be crucial for the Heat as the look to climb the ladder.

In other positive news at the Heat, former club captain and champion batsman Luke Walker has returned to the club as batting coach.

Frankston has also secured former Kingston Hawthorn senior coach Pete Marshall as head of development.

He will help with recruiting as well as oversee Frankston Peninsula’s pathway development.

“He will bring a fair bit of energy into the system,” Ronchi said.
