Recruits Jake Sherriff and Harrison Goad will spearhead a new-look pace attack for Fitzroy Doncaster next season.

The pair have signed at the Lions after the departures of Ryder medallist Trent Lawford, former Tasmanian quick Andew Perrin and Chris Moore.

Sherriff has taken 181 wickets for The Basin and Warrandyte in the past five seasons.

He has also hit 1596 runs.

The 28-year-old also spent two seasons at Ringwood before linking with Warrandyte, where he served as captain-coach.

He has spent the past two seasons at Ferntree Gully District club The Basin.

Sherriff only made seven First XI appearances in his previous stint at Fitzroy Doncaster but can be expected to be seen more of at the top level in 2019-20.

Fitzroy Doncaster captain Ejaaz Alavi said Sherriff wanted to give Premier Cricket another go.

“Mick (coach Mick O’Sullivan) and I met with him and had a good chat and he seemed pretty keen, which was obviously a positive for us because we’ve lost a few fast bowlers,” Alavi said.

“Hopefully he becomes a big addition for us because we’re going to need those fast bowlers to help Sam Elliott out.”

Alavi said Sherriff was a targeted signing.

“He’s good mates with ‘Brem’ (Matthew Bremner) and ‘Dicko’ (Peter Dickson) so we heard through them he had a bit of interest and was thinking about making the return to Premier Cricket,” he said.

“Hopefully he could be one as an experienced player to come in … he knows how to bowl, knows his body really well and is a personal trainer as well so I think he can definitely have an impact straight away.”

Goad topped Kingston Hawthorn’s leading wicket-takers in 2018-19 with 15 scalps.

He has spent the past two seasons at Walter Galt Reserve after crossing from Camberwell Magpies.

“He swings the ball enough both ways, so he’s going to be another great addition and someone who is going to play a reliable role, which is what we’ll be looking for,” Alavi said.

Emerging leg-spinner Ikroop Dhanoa has also crossed to Fitzroy Doncaster from Sub-District Cricket club Plenty Valley.

Dhanoa, 15, played in the Bats’ VSDCA premiership last season and represented Vic Metro at under-15 national championships in February.

He is expected to continue his development in the Lions’ lower grades next season.
