NT Cricket Junior Strike League: Top 50 performers revealed

From local stars to interstate gems, NT Cricket’s Junior Strike League featured a heap of talent. Here are the best cricketers from the tournament.

England keep Ashes series alive in 3rd test win

A super over in the first and final days of this year’s NT Cricket Junior Strike League proved what a top event it was in 2023.

The boys tournament came down to the most thrilling conclusion possible with Caulfield Grammar chasing down NT Ochre’s score of 10/162.

Thomas Milton tied the game in the 43rd over hitting a four off Charlie Bignall, but Ananth Maitra’s dismissal just two balls later sent the game into a super over.

Mitch Menzies put the NT in a good position getting Jez Rigoni out for a golden duck, but Christopher Kellaway and Charlie Wolf piled on nine runs from the remaining five balls.

It was a total the NT couldn’t quite chase down falling short with just eight runs, leaving the Victorian visitors as the winners.

NT Cricket’s head of cricket Darren Treumer said it was a great way to finish a tournament which had been so exciting.

“You couldn’t have written a better script than to have the last game come down to a tie on the final ball with all the teams watching,” he said.

“We introduced a super over this year and we had one on day one and then on the final day as well when it all came down to that game.”

Meanwhile Papua New Guinea was the victors in the girls competition, beating Victoria Pride by two wickets with Lakshmi Kila Rajadurai a standout throughout the series.

Truemer said the tournament, played at the same time as the senior Strike League, was a great opportunity for young Territory talent to get a look at interstate players of the same age.

“It was an amazing series of cricket, we’ve doubled the amount of teams who came to Darwin,” he said.

“It was an opportunity for NT Cricket to showcase the opportunity to play in the southern states’ winter and the standard of cricket has just got better every year.

“Selfishly it’s an opportunity for our NT players to play against different and quality opposition in their own age group and develop a better understanding of where they sit in Australian cricket.

“It was a real eye opener for our Darwin and Alice Springs boys and girls and it was a huge opportunity to show some of the great grounds we have up here.

“All the kids loved it, the interstate coaches had an absolute ball as it will set them up for the southern summer.”
