A boost for the Buds.
Rosebud has recruited Cranbourne premiership players Jake Carosella and Luca Bellinvia.
The pair were part of Cranny’s stirring six-point grand final win over Cheltenham at a sodden Moorabbin last season.
Carosella, 22, was Cranbourne’s best midfielder — a gun clearance player who accumulates possessions and hits the scoreboard — and was put on Casey Demons’ VFL list midway through last season.
Bellinvia came through the Dandenong Stingrays and was regarded as a huge talent at Cranbourne; a versatile, multi-position player who reads the play well, and an excellent kick of the footy.
New Rosebud coach Danny Ades saw the pair close up while playing with Dingley last season and chased hard for their signatures.
“He (Carosella) has got better every year,” Ades said.
“He was arguably the best midfielder in the comp in Division 1 Southern last year so that was a great get.
“I was rapt with that one, it took me a long time.”
Ades said Bellinvia was training with Frankston VFL over summer until he punctured a lung in match sim.
“So he’s only just started training now. He will be with us full-time, he’s a running half back, wing type player with a really nice kick,” he said.
“He’s 21 so he fits into that demographic we’ve got at the club between 19 and 24. I think the oldest bloke on our list is 27 so we’re really young.
“It’s the polar opposite to the list I’d been managing at Dingley, where we had about eight over 30s.”
Ades said Rosebud would regain 2021 best and fairest winner Jackson McRae, Jai Nanscawen and Tom Stoffels this year.
“The exciting part for us is that we’ve got young guys already playing good footy like Reid Nanscawen and Liam Tidd,” Ades said.
“But it’s the people coming back…they are quality local players. I feel like with those guys coming in they are a few recruits in themselves.”
The additions will help Rosebud cover the key losses of captain Sean Downie (to East Brighton) and reigning best and fairest winner Liam McKenna (Sorrento).
Ades said he was excited about the season ahead.
“We’re going to be a young group. So far their attitude at training has been unreal, just really looking to get better,’’ he said.
“We’re still talking to a few potential recruits.
“But I can see a big core group of our list that are at that age where we might be able to get a 10 to 15 percent increase in their development this season which would be huge for us.
“There’s that room for improvement…for me personally that’s the exciting part and why I took the job to be honest. It’s a different challenge for me with this group but it’s exciting because the players are just so keen and eager to learn.
“It’s a very, very coachable group.”
