He played his first senior match in the early 1980s.

And 40 years on, Long Island’s legendary batsman Peter “Potto” Conell is still going strong, still churning out the runs.

On Saturday, in his 499th match, the 54-year-old opened the batting in the seconds and made 100 — his eighth century — to set up a whopping 330 against Old Peninsula.

Winding back the clock, Conell combined with fellow Long Island champion Paul Hartle for a 173-run partnership, taking the score from 4-95 to 5-268.

Hartle hammered 131 — his ninth century. He’s made the second most hundreds in the club’s history.

Conell will become Long Island’s first cricketer to reach 500 games next round.

Special moment for Balnarring’s Jake Hewitt, who scored his maiden century.

His knock of 106 off 146 balls included 13 boundaries and helped the Saints to 9-325 (declared) against Ballam Park (1-5) in Sub District 1sts.

The Hewitts have been on fire at Balnarring this season. Jake’s brother Luke has hit two centuries and nearly 500 runs.

Seeing them like beach balls, Seaford Tigers captain Mackenzie Gardner peeled off his second consecutive century in Peninsula 1sts.

After cracking his maiden century, 112, against Somerville last round, Gardner made 103 in the Tigers’ 185 against Moorooduc on Saturday.

The Tigers had Moorooduc wobbling at 3-18 off 10 overs at stumps.

Delacombe Park seconds player Mark McDonald took a five-for and smashed a century — all before rushing off to work.

Bowling off two steps, and moving the ball around, McDonald took 5-29 off 11 overs to help skittle Rosebud for 80.

He then blasted 105 (9 fours, 6 sixes) before retiring not out to and leaving early to start his night shift job. His big hitting display helped the Parkers to 6-321 at stumps.

McDonald, a former Dennis Cricket Club star who once made an unbeaten 220, recently moved into the area and walked into Delacombe Park unannounced.

Tootgarook opener Travis French produced one of the innings of the season, making 155 (11 fours, 2 sixes) to lift the Frogs out of early trouble and to 8-302 against Skye in Sub District 1sts.

French batted for most of the day, showing immense concentration and determination to raise his bat for his third century.

They’ve been dubbed cricket’s Supermacs.

Main Ridge’s father-son duo of Peter and Nick McNamara belted undefeated swashbuckling centuries in the thirds against Red Hill.

Dad Peter opened the batting and scored 128 not out off 93 balls, with 16 fours and 4 sixes.

Nick came in later and peeled off 109 not out off 52 balls — his maiden century — dispatching 19 balls to the boundary and three over it.

The Supemacs shared an unconquered 161-run partnership, helping the Cougars to 3-315 off 40 overs.

It was enough, just. Red Hill, in reply, fell a run short, making 5-314, in an absolute thriller.

French Island opener Jacob King smashed the highest score of the day, 159 not out off 97 balls, with 27 fours and 5 sixes, in A1.

The blazing innings lifted the Island to 8-221, in reply to Somerville’s 109. Earlier, Jacob took 3-4 with the ball to kick off his big day.

Frankston YCW bowler Jason Hannah ripped the heart out of Rye’s batting in Sub District 2nds.

Hannah snared 7-27 off 18 overs, easily his best figures, to roll Rye for 103.

The Stonecats in reply were 4-36.
