MPCA: Jack Greenwood peels off back-to-back centuries for Frankston YCW

There were breathtaking performances aplenty in the Mornington Peninsula association, including a batsman who hit two centuries in 24 hours. See the weekend’s high achievers.

What a weekend for Frankston YCW First XI captain Jack Greenwood.

The classy batsman achieved the rare feat of scoring unbeaten centuries on consecutive days, belting 134no against Boneo on Saturday and then 127no against Ballam Park on Sunday.

Greenwood’s ton against Boneo gave the Stonecats their first win of the MPCA Sub District season.

And his Sunday century also gave YCW a win.

Greenwood is up to 404 runs, at 57, for the season.

Former Adelaide Strikers Big Bash star Ian Cockbain belted his second century for Langwarrin to help the Kangaroos upset ladder leaders Old Peninsula in Provincial on Sunday.

Cockbain opened the batting and made 113no off 127 balls (10 fours, 2 sixes) as Langy ran down the Pirates’ 184 with an over and five wickets to spare.

The Englishman made 179 for Langwarrin before Christmas.

Tootgarook playing-coach Jason Lane had a magnificent match against Rye in Sub District 2nds. After making 95 with the bat, Lane captured 7-52 off 20 overs to seal a gripping eight-run win for the Frogs.

The best bowling figures of the weekend were returned by Baden Powell’s Robert Sinni, who snared 7-8 off 11 overs, with seven maidens, against Baxter in A3.

Delacombe Park’s Andrew Stapleton captured match figures of 11-62 to help the Parkers pull off a reverse outright win over Hastings. Stapleton took 5-42 and 6-20, his second innings spell demolishing Hastings for 45.

Rosebud captain Patrick Nagel unleashed a hostile spell to take 4-5 and bowl his side to victory against Main Ridge. After Rosebud was rolled for 77, Nagel combined with Ash Mills (3-5) to demolish the Cougars for 48.

What about the bowling display by Somerville evergreen David Livingstone! The 60-year-old took a hat-trick on his way to 5-17 off 7.2 overs against Tyabb in C4. He also top scored with 27.

Baden Powell run machine Rhys Elmi celebrated his Country Week selection with 108 off 81 balls (11 fours, 5 sixes) and 4-28 in the Braves’ win over Baxter in Provincial on Sunday.

Elmi and Jobe Gardner (51no) put on 163 for the fifth wicket.

It was Elmi’s sixth century for Baden Powell.

Flinders skipper Blake Hogan-Keogh scored arguably the best century seen at BA Cairns Reserve. His 106-ball stay included 14 fours and 3 sixes and helped the Sharks edge Heatherhill in the last over, nine wickets down.

Heatherhill greats: David "Scabs" Martin, Christian "Pip'' Heath and Anthony Neal.

A mighty milestone for Heatherhill champion Christian “Pip” Heath, who played his 450th game for his beloved Hills in the seconds on Sunday. He made 34 against Flinders, which won the game on the back of a brilliant 144no by Heath’s former teammate Shane Beggs. Pip joins Hills greats David Martin, Graham Ash and Anthony Neal to have reached 450 games for the club.

Carrum Downs bowler Sheroze Din took a hat-trick on his way to an eye-popping 5-9 off 8 overs in the Cougars win over Hastings in District 2nds.

It was the second hat-trick for Carrum Downs in a week, after Shane Smith achieved it in the First XI.
