Oh, brother! What a day for Mornington Cricket Club.
Several significant firsts, including a history making achievement, had tongues wagging at the Bulldogs on Saturday night.
In Mornington’s thirds, brothers Michael and Anthony Doe made history by taking all 10 of Baden Powell’s wickets.
The boys bowled 168 dot balls out of 199 total balls bowled. They became the first brothers in Mornington’s 161-year history to take all 10 wickets in a match, with 23-year-old Anthony taking career best figures of 6-22 off 16.1 overs and Michael, 27, nabbing 4-21 off 17 overs to dismiss the Braves for 49.
“It was our day,” Michael declared, adding that he was more proud of Anthony, who he said possesses an “unplayable off cutter”.
“It’s pretty cool, pretty special to be honest. I had a little tear in my eye. I was pretty proud of him (Anthony).’’
Mornington’s big day continued in the seconds when Jamie Clemie and Jack Hodgetts peeled off their maiden centuries in the match against Moorooduc.
Clemie finished with 128 and Hodgetts 101 not out, the pair sharing a double century partnership of 204.
Both are emerging batters who are headed for bright futures.
And there was an emotional moment in Mornington’s fourths when club legend and life member Richard Perks scored an unbeaten 111 — also his maiden ton — while using the bat of his late, great mate, Shane Davis, who died last year.
Perks honoured him with a fantastic innings.
“We are all sure that Davo would have been so proud and happy watching him yesterday,” the club wrote.
“The unbeaten 111 signifies the memory of Davo that none of us will forget.”
